He was born and raised in West Bengal, India. He received a BSc & M.Sc. degree in Chemistry at the University of North Bengal. He received National Talent Scholarship during this period. He was among the top 10% in CSIR net examination and nominated for SPMF. Subsequently joined IIT, Delhi, where he completed a Ph.D degree in the area of catalysis. In 2009, he moved to the Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA to join Professor Pericles Stavropoulos as a postdoctoral research associate and continued for more than three years. In 2013, He joined INST and currently he is a faculty member of Energy Environment Unit.
Research
The group works on designing and synthesizing new nanoscale materials and structures with an emphasis on rational control of morphology, size, structure, composition and doping of metal carbides, nitrides, sulphides, phosphides, oxides etc on multiple scales for Energy and Environmental Applications. Nanostructured composite materials for photoelectrochemical applications; Rechargeable Metal-Air Batteries and hybrid energy storage devices; Active catalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction for Nonaqueous Air Batteries; Development of low-cost, stable and efficient electrocatalyst for development of PEMFC; MOF based polymer electrolyte; Nano-materials mediated catalysis for organic transformations; Engineered nanomaterials for Air/Water purification; Sensors
Extra Academic Activities
1. Convened a workshop on X-ray crystallography jointly organized by PU & INST during 6-7th July 2017. 2. Co-Convener of the International Conference on Nano Science and Technology (ICONSAT 2014): Dr. Bagchi has Co-organized ICONSAT-2014 held at PU, Chandigarh from 3rd – 5th March, 2014. 3. Convener of the Indo-Australian conference 2015: Dr. Bagchi has organized AISRF 2015 held at Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST) 25 – 27th November, 2015.
