Institute of Nano Science and Technology
Under the umbrella of National Mission on Nano Science and Technology (NANO MISSION, DST Govt. of India), which aims to foster multifaceted growth and outreach of nanoscience and technology, INST has been set up as a centre of excellence for undertaking research and generate products/devices and technology for the application in the area of energy, environment, medicine and agriculture. Land for INST has been allotted by Punjab Government in Sector 81, Mohali (Part of Knowledge City). The institute has started its operation from the Habitat Centre in Sector 64, Phase X, Mohali after the Director, Prof. A.K. Ganguli took charge in Jan, 2013. The building has been renovated, offices, some laboratory space, and guest rooms are at present operational. Experimental facilities are currently being set up at the transit campus and equipments are under procurement. INST has plans to commence Ph.D. Program in this year and also plans to start M.S/M.Tech Program in Nano Science and Technology in the coming years. The apex executive body of the Institute is the Board of Governors chaired by Prof. C N R Rao, FRS, which has been constituted with eminent scientists and senior functionaries from the Government including representatives from the Government of Punjab.
